Night fears are very common at school age, however they can generate high anxiety in some children, negatively interfering with their lives. Recently, the AITANA research group has developed a self-report scale, the Nighttime Coping Response Scale (NCRS), to assess what coping strategies children use when faced with these nighttime fears. The scale consists of 26 items and was validated in a community sample of Spanish children aged 8 to 12 years. The NCRS has been shown to have good internal consistency for both the total scale and its subscales, as well as adequate convergent and divergent validity.
