The doctoral thesis conducted by Mayra Gómez-Lugo, under the direction of Sandra Morales and Jose Pedro Espada, has identified that adolescents in Colombia are at high risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies due to inconsistent condom use. In addition, a medium-low level of sexual health knowledge, low normative beliefs about condom use, and perceived difficulties in condom use have been observed. The thesis includes the cultural adaptation and evaluation of the efficacy of the COMPAS sexual health promotion protocol to reduce risky sexual behaviors in Colombian adolescents. The results show that the cultural adaptation of the COMPAS program is effective in promoting healthy sexuality in adolescents in Colombia and produces changes in the sexual behavior of the participants.
