The Journal of Clinical Psychology with Children and Adolescents has held today the call for its II Research Award for the best paper on assessment, psychopathology, and child and adolescent psychological treatment. The awards ceremony was attended by the General Director of TEA, Ms. Milagros Antón, and the Director of the Journal of Clinical Psychology with Children and Adolescents, UMH professor José Antonio Piqueras. The aim of this initiative has been to promote the development of research in the area of child mental health. The award was sponsored by TEA Ediciones, an international benchmark in the field of psychological assessment.
A jury of experts judged more than twenty original papers from countries such as Spain, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Mexico, Argentina, and Bulgaria. The first prize, endowed with 1000 euros has been for the work entitled:
“Bidirectional Effects between Psychopathic Traits and Conduct Problems in Early Childhood: Examining Parenting as Potential Mediator” by Laura López-Romero, Beatriz Domínguez-Álvarez, Aimé Isdahl-Troye, and Estrella Romero, from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain).
The study analyzes parental practices as a mediator between psychopathic traits and behavioral problems in a longitudinal study with nearly 2000 children. The mediating role of these practices was evidenced, particularly in the relationship between psychopathic traits of interpersonal and affective type, and behavioral problems through affect-based practices. The results allow us to draw important implications for models of psychopathic personality development and for the prediction and prevention of early-onset behavior problems.
