In one of the latest articles published in the RPCNA and written by Sara Marco, Mar\u00eda Mayoral, and Gonzalo Herv\u00e1s, we explore changes in adolescents with borderline personality characteristics and in their caregivers after participating in \u201cDialectical Behavior Multifamily Group Therapy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Objective: To evaluate whether a DBT-A skills group as a stand-alone treatment could improve parenting styles and emotional regulation in adolescents with characteristics of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and their parents.<\/p>\n
Methodology:
\n\u2022 12-week skills group intervention with 14 adolescents and their caregivers.
\n\u2022 Participants (81.82% women) from 14 to 17 years old (M= 15.55, SD=.82).
\n\u2022 Clinically Reliable Change (CRC) to understand individual changes.
\n\u2022 Evaluation of the acceptability of the intervention.<\/p>\n
Results:
\n\u2022 Effective in improving parenting styles (more affectionate and less critical) in parents and adolescents.
\n\u2022 Changes in various emotional regulation processes.
\n\u2022 Some changes were maintained six months later.
\n\u2022 Satisfactory levels of satisfaction with the intervention.<\/p>\n
Conclusion: Multifamily intervention with DBT-A could modify mechanisms related to the development of BPD, such as parenting styles. The duration may not be sufficient to improve emotional regulation processes.<\/p>\n
